Alex Francke, an aspiring model and actress from Lexington, KY, was a member of The Kentucky Center Governor's School for the Arts Class of 2013, specializing in Drama. After GSA’s three-week residential summer program, Alex returned to her community and created her own nonprofit organization!

Adopt an Art is a program for children in grades K-8 who are interested in participating in arts activities but don’t have the money or resources to pay for private instruction, and don’t have art classes offered during the day at their school. Through the program, conducted last year in an elementary school setting, youth are mentored by volunteer “arts ambassadors,” many of them also former Governor’s School for the Arts alums.

The program was extremely successful in its first year and will expand its services over the summer in a trial run at a Lexington middle school. Weekly classes are offered in Instrumental Music, Music Theory, Vocal Music, Drama and Acting, Creative Writing, Dance, and Visual Art.

The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts is a competitive statewide program that provides three weeks of FREE residential conservatory-style training for accepted students in nine artistic disciplines: architecture, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theatre, new media, visual art, and vocal music. The GSA experience continues to benefit students with opportunities for college scholarships, grants for creative projects, and more.
